Food Waste
Growing up, do you remember being told to finish your plate and not waste food? Have you ever wondered how much food is actually wasted? In the US, food waste at retail and consumer levels is around 133 billion pounds a year (that’s equal to 532,000 blue whales, the largest animals on earth) and costing almost $162 billion dollars. Food waste is an epidemic and is now the most common waste found in landfills. Most people aren’t aware of these facts. Food Waste focuses on various types of food waste; the amount and type of waste generated at every level of production; and different ways to do one’s part in reducing food waste. The information is easily accessible. The more people know about the scale and detrimental effects of food waste, the more people will be inspired to do their part.
