A Glimpse, A Peek
Technology is part of everyday life. We are neither surprised by its ubiquity nor affronted by its continual subsumption of jobs. We are plugged in, connected to, and reliant upon any number of devices, sources, and nodes, all claiming to make life easier, more efficient, keep us better informed, more secure, better protected, up to date, engaged. Our lives, our jobs, our homes, our schools, our automobiles, and the public sphere in general is managed by our and others’ devices. Engagement via technology certainly feels “real.” But are we really prepared to lay ourselves bare in exchange for greater convenience and efficiency? What does that even mean? Design can help clarify and elucidate the full and true extent of our reliance on technology, and its effects, positive and negative. I have designed a futuristic world that gives viewers a glimpse of technology’s myriad entanglements, on the one hand, and, on the other hand, a peek at the innumerable opportunities and subsequent achievements technology presents us with.
