Discovery Make-It
Screens demand more and more attention every day, for adults and children alike. In one study, published in 2020, more screen time, including television viewing, affects not only one’s physical wellbeing but one’s mental and behavioral wellbeing as well. Unhealthy signs in children include aggression, antisocial behavior, and depression. Discovery Make-Kits is a series of kits that engage children in imagination-driven activities using different found materials like sticks and twigs, recycled plastics, autumns leaves, even snow. Parents won’t need to scramble to find scissors or glue, as each kit has everything a child needs to get started as well as an instruction book introducing the activities. Discovery Make-It kits encourage children to use their imaginations, to be resourceful, and to problem-solve; once they get started, children are certain to come up with their own ideas!

Spiral Connector uses flexible 6 way joints to create different 3D shapes such as a pyramid and a cube out of irregular sticks and twigs. This construction-based activity is influenced by the nomadic designs of Victor Papanek.

Each kit includes a picture-based, minimal text, fold out style instruction booklet. Children can easily grasp the end-goal of the featured activity.

Color Shapes with Leaves is an autumn activity also inspired by land art; children create colorful composition with colorful leaves and rocks.

Plastic Braids is another construction-based activity inspired by Papanek’s nomadic designs. It uses plastic bags to create braids that can be used to make all sorts of accessories and objects: a belt, a necklace, a crown, and many other things children might imagine.

The Snow Spiral is a seasonal activity inspired by land art, which encourages children to use snow as a canvas.
