UP-RISE!
Since the mid 1960’s, underground music has created important tensions with popular music culture that both assimilate and resist. The modern music industry, however, has given short shrift to the up-and-coming music community, relegating these artists to the background. Americans stream, on average, 75-minutes of music per day. How much of that time is devoted to the committed work of non-mainstream music? Development of platforms, software, and other networking technologies designed to support underground music exist, but, even by today’s standards, lack effective representation. As a designer, I am creating a truly representative space for this rhythm riot: a dynamic networking aid aimed exclusively at the culture of underground musicians and their producers. UP-RISE! is a mobile application designed to serve this community in two ways: as custom archive and as collaboration hub. UP-RISE! equips visionary masters of the underground with the technology they need to rise to the foreground of the music industry, to be recognized for its uncanny potential, and to be heard.
