Reverberating Silence
When one loses a loved one it can be difficult to regain a sense of self. The world zips by and yet the self seems unable to move, to think, to talk, to eat. Engaging in everyday activities following a traumatic experience like the death of someone dear leaves one unsure and overwhelmed with emotion. An examination of one’s view of death, including one’s own mortality, is inevitable. Myriad emotions exist — and persist — beyond words, beyond time. The depth of bereavement is unfathomable. Designers give form to feeling and expression. My work is an investigation around feelings of loss and the stages of grief. Heavy material but, for anyone who has had the experience, an essential first step towards coming to terms with death and bereavement.
