Mule
Footwear in the fashion industry has conjured countless silhouettes, features, and functions. And there is always room for more. The slightest modification is enough to create a new craze. The clothing fashion market is similar and yet, for the discerning consumer, there are mix-and-match collections that enable the wearer to assemble several different outfits from a select number of pieces. As a designer, the idea to optimize the lifetime of footwear and to provide shoe wearers with interchangeable pieces and material variations intrigued me. Starting with a one-of-a-kind shoe core and experimenting with different bonding techniques and a variety of materials, I designed more than 20 alternate versions. Shoemaking is an art. Mule puts the art of shoemaking into the hands of the wearer.
