¡I Am Chicano, Tengo Color!
The 21st century has witnessed a particularly harsh climate for the Chicano/a community in America, with an increase in negative public perception, due, in large part, to the ongoing migration from Mexico and other South American countries. More than ever, it is important to communicate the vibrant socio-cultural history, traditions, and values that distinguish the Chicano/a community. It is largely due to the efforts of the Chicano/a people that Hispanics are at the forefront of national media and politics. As a Chicano American designer, I experimented with combining ancient Aztec symbols from my ancestral roots with graphic forms from my American heritage. The result is a typographic design that, when projected, is a kinetic mural that celebrates Chicanos/as in America with palpable confidence and great pride.
